Here, for the moment at least, on this palm tree lined beach front lies paradise. The music plays, drinks flow, spliffs are smoked, ad-hoc football games are organised in the soft sand and you get the merest glimpse of what it is like when people are just content to 'be.' I was walking along the beach front last night. Passing a bar festooned with fairy lights and other out of place Christmas paraphernalia a voice called out to me. 'Welcome my friend! Come on in, have a cold drink, free pool table, free chicken from the barbecue, OK to smoke marijuana!' Can't really refuse that offer now, can you?
It occurs to me perhaps you’re wondering where I’m sat whilst typing this. Some luxurious air conditioned Internet cafe perhaps. Well no, this one’s actually a supermarket: That’s me sat in the the front seat who you can’t see because I’ve popped out of shot to take the photo. Directly behind me the selection of mosquito repellents. How convenient.
Lots of climbing goes on here. Watching from the safety of the ground seems the wisest idea to me.
The view from our hut. Excuse the shorts they were drying on the balcony and I didn’t want to move them in case I got creases. Yeah right. Note the Coffee shop off in the distance. That’s “Coffee Shop” as in “Dutch style” for those in the know. The big difference is they don’t really seem to want you to pay for it. Your company seems to be sufficient.
No, it’s a bar. Actually it looks better at high tide, but them I’d have been sploshing around in the sea to take the photo and in the dark, so not the best plan. So try and imagine the waves gently washing around the feet of several stoned people sat on those stools, with surprised looks on their faces when they have suddenly released that the strange sensation around their ankles is really happening and actually the sea.
